Starfish Room October Recap

During October the children in the Starfish room have explored a variety of topics that all have elements of texture and nature. We celebrated the Harvest Festival and enjoyed activities that gave the children opportunities to explore the textures of real food and how they might be harvested by using diggers or being picked by hand. The children expanded their interest in the topic by looking at the finer details and taking part in activities such as mark-making in the paint down a cardboard ramp to look at the different tyre tracks that tractors and diggers may make. We also investigated different insects and bugs using a selection of tuff tray activities involving natural resources such as leaves, bark, cotton wool and string to encourage the children to explore their touch senses. Out topic of plants and flowers has helped the children explore their gross motor skills by using their whole bodies to grow upwards like plants and move around in the breeze and their fine motor skills by using their concentration skills to make smaller marks in paint using fresh flowers. The children have also had lots of fun in our home corner area being imaginative and pretending to cook with real food such as herb plants and vegetables. They have been feeling and smelling the plants and have been encouraged to try and talk about their play and experiences. We have had a lovely month in the Starfish Room and look forward to what November may bring!

Octopus Room October Recap

We kick-started our month by celebrating the Harvest Festival, we had some farm tuff trays, where we had to dig for vegetables and fruit which was very fun! We also made a scarecrow this month which we were very proud of and hopefully, you will have seen our lovely pictures on Facebook! In October, we have also been learning about numbers, shapes and colours. The children have been taking part in lots of maths themed activities and they tried their very best to produce some wonderful artwork for our lovely new maths board in our room. Well done to all the children for helping and using their wonderful imaginations. We have been encouraging the children to learn about colours and how colours can change when we mix them up. The children really enjoyed getting messy with lots of different paint colours and messy trays. Exploring shapes have also been a lot of fun in our room this month, the children used lots of different blocks to make square shapes and also using scissors to create their own shapes. Octopus and Dolphin children really enjoyed our book of the month which was Christopher’s Pumpkin. At the end of the month, we were preparing for our Pumpkin and Kitten Party by making decorations. The children used playdough, paint and their amazing imaginations to create spiders, ghosts, pumpkins and bats. We would like to thank all of the children for their hard work this month, well-done everyone
